The focus Migration information service is a partnership between the Migration Research Group (MRG) at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), Netzwerk Migration in Europa e.V. and the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). focus Migration combines the services and expertise of all three partners in the areas of immigration, migration, asylum and integration.
Migration Research Group
The Migration Research Group (MRG) at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) is an international and interdisciplinary team of researchers. The MRG’s research focuses on questions surrounding the economic, political, humanitarian, social and cultural aspects of migration. The group’s research projects address German, European and international concerns. Members of the MRG have extensive experience in the field of economic and socioeconomic research and in policy consultancy for governments and international organisations. Most recently the MRG has advised organizations such as the European Commission, the UN Global Commission and the World Bank.

The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) was founded in March 2005 as a private, independent, non-profit research institute. The HWWI carries out interdisciplinary research activities in the context of the following research programmes: Economic Trends and Hamburg, International Trade and Development, Migration Research and International Climate Policy.

Netzwerk Migration in Europa e.V.
Netzwerk Migration in Europa is an initiative of experts who wish to promote knowledge and understanding of immigration and integration in European society. At the intersection of education, culture and research, Netzwerk conducts projects, symposia and seminars in the areas of immigration, integration and intercultural dialogue.
Together with migrant and minority organizations, educational and cultural institutions as well as universities, Netzwerk is committed to fostering greater awareness of past and present migration and migrant issues.
The work of Netzwerk Migration in Europa e.V. is divided into four project areas:
- Facilitating knowledge transfer and networking (through the newsletter, expert databank, etc.)
- Creating visual representations of migrant life in film, photo and video exhibits
- Making migration experiences in Germany and Europe “seen and heard” through interviews and oral history projects
- Providing a platform for sharing research (symposia, summer school, publications)

The Germany Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb)
The German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) offers a wide range of online services that create transparency and clarity regarding political debates and social developments. More information about migration and integration issues can be found at: www.bpb.de/themen
Since 2001, the agency has intensified its work on political education in the areas of migration, integration, intercultural dialogue and the European Union. Additionally, through cooperation with other institutions in the field of political education, the bpb is able to hold events on topics ranging from opportunities and risk factors created by immigrant populations to intercultural acceptance within government authorities.

The variety of publications offered through the bpb has also increased significantly in the past two years to include more literature concerning migration and integration as well as information dealing with questions of intercultural dialogue and world religions. Lastly, the bpb’s expert databank allows interested individuals and players in the field of migration policy to network and communicate online. Over 300 experts from government-run and private organizations, universities and research institutions are represented here. The databank is continuously expanding to become a virtual platform for the exchange of ideas.
